The Harsimus Stem Embankment, a disused rail structure stretching half a mile and once serving as a route for freight trains to the Hudson River, has remained dormant and overgrown with vegetation since the 1990s. Repurposing this embankment into a vertical park and greenway would address the local community's need for open space and connectivity while preserving a piece of historical significance.

Site Information
The Sixth Street Embankment is an enormous raised-in-embankment rail berm along 6th Street from Marin Boulevard to Brunswick Street in downtown Jersey City. Built from 1901–1905 of heavy masonry construction, it supported seven railroad tracks that served the Pennsylvania Railroad’s Hudson River freight yards.
